Mental Health Champions
At Hall Orchard we have a team of thirty pupils from years 4-6 who have received training to become a Mental Health Champion. They have learnt about the importance of having positive mental health and techniques to help when children are struggling with worries and anxieties.
Our Mental Health Champions are positive role models within our school community. They recognise and promote the importance of positive mental health within their class, year group, on the playground and across the school. The children offer a listening ear and a watchful eye that looks out for someone who may appear worried or lonely. Our Mental Health Champions aim to provide reassurance and help children to understand that all feelings are ok.
The Mental Health Champions have learnt all about the skills and qualities required to be a Mental Health Champion, Empathy, Kindness, Positivity, Courage and Leadership.
The Pastoral Team work alongside the Mental Health Champions, supporting them during their training and offering guidance. As part of their training, Mental Health Champions understand when to share a child’s worry and are able to ask the Pastoral Team for help anytime. The Mental Health Champions meet with the Pastoral Team regularly to talk about how we can further support our Mental Health at Hall Orchard and raise the profile of having positive Mental Health.
